Baptisms and Monsters

Hello!

This week was GREAT! Sister Perez and I are loving being companions and working here in Edinburg Central. I want to tell a little story.. 

One day my companion, Sister Stevenson, and I were walking around a neighborhood. We decided to knock on this purple looking door. An older lady named Consuelo answers the door and invites us in before we even introduce ourselves. Perfect. We taught her and her grandchildren the first lesson and set Baptismal dates with them for the 11th of June. 

 

 

 

Everything seems perfect. Sunday comes and we are expecting them to come to church. We call her an hour before to make sure that she is still coming and she tells us that she can't because she was going to go to the park. Really? The park? That's why you can't come to church? She didn't budge. Oh well. So that next week we continue teaching her and her family. By this time, her 10 year old granddaughter had already read 50 pages of the Book of Mormon. We were so excited! But then it started to get really hard to meet with them. The kids had sports every day including Sundays. We weren't sure exactly what to do. We decided to try a little harder. Then all of a sudden, we saw a huge change in Consuelo. She had an intense desire to learn more and was calling us every day to see when we were going over. We set up a time for her baptismal interview. Everything was great! Well.. she asked if she could wear a sparkly bikini.. she's like 78. She is absolutely hilarious. I have such a huge place in my heart for her. Yesterday I had to divine opportunity to see her enter into the waters of baptism. She came out of the font glowing with the light of Christ. I couldn't help but shed a tear or two. She is going to be an amazing member. 

 

 

Onto the other exciting part of my weekend.. Sister Perez and I had a companionship study with the two district leaders in my zone. After the study, they made us drink a Monster energy drink because we had never tried them before. After a little while, I went CRAZY! That stuff just went right through and made me a maniac! Then a few hours later.. I crashed. Hard. It was the WORST! The Elders were laughing so hard! So advice from Hna Hunt for the week.. don't drink monsters. They will destroy you.

P.S. We got a new car, we can only drive so many miles a week in it. So I still use the bike, but since Sister Perez doesn't have a license, I get to drive all the time. Yay!! My new baby (it won't ever replace Remy, but it's nice)

Feliz dia de las madres!!

**Sorry it's a little late, Dad posts these and he was on a business trip**

To all the moms and women out there, HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY! I hope everyone had a great day! And to all those missionary families, I hope you all enjoyed talking to your missionaries. I know we all enjoyed it out here. 

 

 

Of course talking to my mom yesterday made me think of all the things she has done for me. Being on a mission and away from home really helps me to realize all the responsibilities my mom had. I'm still trying to learn from everything she taught me. ..I make quesadillas in the microwave.. I still have a long way to go. But for real, I just wanted to take this time to thank all the mother's out there. My mom:) my grandmas, my mission mom, everyone else out there who is basically like a mom to me. I appreciate you all and everything you do! 

Well, We had TRANSFERS this week! I am now with Sister Perez! We have been living together for the last 3 months and she just got transferred rooms, so it's perfect! We are both really short so that works out. Everyone thinks we are like 14 or 15 when we're walking down the street.. no no. We are in our 20s. It's a little awkward sometimes. Oh well. This transfer is going to be amazing! We feel it! There are miracles just waiting to happen and we are going to do EVERYTHING we can to be worthy to receive them.

6 more weeks!!

Helllooo!

Transfers are here! And I'm staying in good ol Edinburg for another 6 weeks! I'm actually really excited to stay here! We have a lot of great things happening here. I wanted to take a little time to reflect on my time here before I start this new transfer. 

I can honestly say that I have changed so much while serving a mission here. I had always heard that missionaries really change for the better while serving, but I had no idea it would be like this! Everyday I get to forget about myself and focus on other people. I get to develop those Christlike attributes while only thinking about other people. I have been studying a lot lately about being "selfless." The key to truly loving people is selfless service. When you have that desire to do good for other people and don't expect any praise or something in return, is when you really develop love for people. I have learned that through other missionaries, companions, and investigators. Some people are a little bit harder to love than others, but that just means that you need to serve them more. I'm not going to lie, this one has been a bit difficult for me, but I know that it truly brings blessings. Alright well that's all I have for this time folks:)

The power of a simple fast

Hello everyone!

This past week definitely tried my faith a little bit. We were supposed to have a baptism yesterday, but everything fell apart in these last few days. Everything was perfect. We had everything set up, but on the day of our investigator's interview, we couldn't find him. We tried for hours. Which then turned into days. Our faith was tested every time we went to his house and no one answered the door. We didn't even know what to do. We were walking around outside on Saturday and we decided to start a fast. Right there. We just stopped what we were doing and begged for help from the Lord. I'm not going to lie, that was the hardest fast I have ever done. It was 100 degrees and I was sick, but it was worth it. The next day at church we had a bunch of less actives and an entire investigator FAMILY come to church! We had a lot of people there! We also saw other miracles falling from the sky. Of course it was difficult, but I now have a very strong testimony about fasting. If we do it right and with a sincere heart, we will receive answers from heaven. We didn't get it in the way we expected; we still can't find that investigator that was supposed to be baptized, but we received what we really needed. 

I love the gospel! I love being a missionary! It is really tough, but every second is worth it.

Las chinchas...

So.. this week was pretty interesting. I'll start off with the weird part. So a couple weeks ago, I started getting these really weird bug bites. I always get bit by bugs, so I didn't really think anything of it, but they kept getting worse and worse. Then I mentioned it to another sister that we live with and she had the same thing! We thought that they were just mosquito bites. But then we were talking to another sister that just moved from our apartment to another one and she had the same thing! Well.. we found out a few days ago that we have BED BUGS! It started in one apartment and because we've done exchanges, it's now in like 6 sister apartments! And we just found out that somehow, ALL the Elders in our zone have them too! Eventually this is going to be an entire mission thing. We've been trying to talk to members to see how we can quickly get rid of them. We basically baptized our entire apartment yesterday with baking soda and salt. So.. if anyone has anymore suggestions. That would be great!

Okay on to the missionary stuff. 

We had a great week! We were able to find a lot of new people and they are progressing really well. We have this one investigator named Roberto. He is absolutely ready for baptism, all he needs to do is get married. So we are trying to plan a wedding for this week so that he can be baptized as soon as possible. He is so great! 

 

Even though we had a lot of highs this week, we also had a lot of lows. Some of our incredibly amazing investigators dropped us this week. We have no idea why, but we can't ever go back to them again. In a situation like that, it's hard to keep the faith. We might say, we did everything that we could do for those people, where did we go wrong? The only way to get through this is to keep our focus and keep the faith. We need to focus on the people that we actually have and use the gift of discernment to find the people that are being prepared. We are really excited to keep our investigators progressing. All we need is love. I love the people here, and I want the best for them. So I am going to work as hard as I can to help them be as happy as I am with the true gospel of Jesus Christ in my life.

All you need is a little bit of faith..

Hello!

This week was a little crazy. It was a bit rough. My health, our investigators, companions, just the normal mission life; but something happened yesterday that gave my all the faith and motivation that I needed...

We have been teaching an investigator named Lazaro. He is an older man that is paralyzed from a stroke. He was able to get a little movement in his left leg, but that's it. He has been going through some health trials lately and couldn't make it to church yesterday. We went over to his house to see what was going on, and we decided to have some Elders come with us to give him a priesthood blessing. Lazaro did not doubt his faith for a minute. He knew that he would start to feel better once he received the blessing; but no one expected what would happen next.. He was sitting down in his wheelchair, and out of no where he just decided to stand up!! Then he started shouting, "I DID IT!" And after a little bit, he took a few steps!!! I was just sitting there in amazement! His wife started crying. (I might have shed a few tears also) He knew with all of his heart that he was helped through the power of the priesthood. I know that it is real. Through that experience, there is no way I could ever deny it. I love this gospel! I love what I am able to teach everyday.

Birthday and Hello World

Well as most of you should know, March 30h was my birthday, I can't believe I am no longer a teenager and now 20 years old. Wow!

My Zone leaders threw me a birthday party, they tricked us by saying there was going to be a Zone meeting at the church and it became a birthday party. They even baked me a cake. Yes I blew all the candles out with one breath.

CONFERENCE! General Conference has been on my mind for the last few days. It was AMAZING! Honestly, General Conference on the mission is the best! It was better than my birthday! Oh my word I can't even explain how much I loved it! I have pages and pages of notes. Sadly, I forgot them all at home, so.. I'm just going to wing it. 

One of my favorite talks was the one on Sunday by President Uchtdorf. He was talking about gratitude. I loved when he said that we don't have to be grateful FOR things, but be grateful IN our circumstances. Sometimes we feel like we don't have anything to be grateful for; especially in times of trouble. I know I've felt that before. After listening to this talk, I know that it is our choice. We can choose whether or not to have an attitude of gratitude. We all have trials (I know I've talked a TON about trials) but if we just stay grateful and continually keep that attitude, everything will be okay.

I don't have a ton of time. But I love you all! If you didn't get a chance to watch all sessions of general conference, I suggest that you go online and watch them! They were all amazing!!
